Vascular Laser

Vascular lesions can cause patients to feel self-conscious about the appearance of their skin, but the good news is that there is a safe, non-invasive solution that can eliminate such skin imperfections for good. At our Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery location in Portage, MI, we offer vascular laser treatments that can restore a uniform skin tone and texture.

What Is a Vascular Laser?

A vascular laser is designed to remove vascular lesions from the skin. Vascular lesions are skin abnormalities, including birthmarks, benign growths, spider veins, and even rosacea and redness. Vascular lesions distract from the skin’s natural beauty and can negatively impact your confidence. Our laser device uses light energy to produce heat to effectively clear lesions and associated discoloration from the skin.

The laser is far more effective than any topical product at clearing the skin because it reaches below the skin’s surface to address the root cause of the lesion or discoloration and forces the body to respond with cellular regeneration. The quick and comfortable treatment process results in healthier and rejuvenated skin and a more uniform skin tone and texture.

What Are the Treatment Benefits?

There are many benefits to undergoing treatment with a vascular laser to perfect your skin. This advanced laser system is designed to target skin imperfections safely without damaging or affecting any surrounding tissue and is equipped with technology that helps ensure patient comfort. Additionally, we can customize each treatment for the unique needs of our patients and their specific skin imperfections. Some of the other treatment benefits include:

  • Patients achieve uniform skin tone after completing their treatment plan
  • Improved patient confidence
  • Quick and virtually painless treatments
  • Little to no downtime following treatment
  • Permanent results
  • Treatments are non-surgical and non-invasive

Frequently Asked Questions

What Type of Lesions and Imperfections Can It Remove?

Our laser can perfect the skin by eliminating some of the most common vascular lesions. These include port wine stains, spider veins and other leg veins, venous lesions, facial veins, angiomas, rosacea, and redness. If you have a specific imperfection you want to treat but aren’t sure if it qualifies for vascular laser treatment, we can schedule a consultation to evaluate that area in person and make treatment recommendations based on your skin concerns.

How Does it work?

Vascular lasers use light energy to break down blood vessels beneath the skin’s surface. The laser produces heat that forces the body to respond by removing damaged or discolored skin cells and blood vessels in the area, regenerating the skin, and producing a more even skin tone and texture.

One of the benefits of this treatment process is that it eliminates unwanted pigmentation and lesions from the skin and rejuvenates the skin in the treatment area in the process.

What Should I Expect From the Treatment Process?

During your treatment, we will use a handheld laser device and activate the laser light energy, applying it directly to your desired treatment area. The laser energy will pass from the device into your skin to target and disrupt active blood vessels below the skin’s surface.

This process is specifically designed to remove the lesion from the skin, lessening its appearance. Patients can expect a comfortable treatment process with little to no discomfort. Most patients often describe a slight warming sensation during the treatment that subsides by the end of the session.

Is There Any Downtime?

There’s no significant downtime after a vascular laser treatment. Patients can expect to resume most of their normal daily activities as soon as the appointment is over. Laser treatments, in general, temporarily increase skin sensitivity, especially to the sun and certain products. For that reason, it’s important that you avoid sun exposure immediately following your treatment.

You may also need to temporarily discontinue the use of certain topical products containing ingredients that could irritate the treatment area. We will provide thorough instructions about how to care for your skin after your treatment, which products to use, which to temporarily discontinue, and answer any questions about aftercare.

A breast lift is an outpatient cosmetic surgery procedure designed to lift drooping or sagging breasts to a more youthful and higher place on your chest. If your breasts are sagging, a breast lift may be just the thing to make your breasts a bit “perkier.” Depending upon the amount of breast tissue present, you may wish to have breast implants inserted during your breast lift procedure to give you more fullness or cleavage. Conversely, some women who initially desire breast implants find that a lift will also be necessary to get the best resulting size and shape.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Patients with more advanced treatment goals may need a series of treatments for optimal results. However, many patients benefit significantly from just one treatment. When we discuss your treatment goals and evaluate your treatment area during your consultation, we can give you a better projection of the recommended number of treatments you’ll need so you can plan accordingly.

When Can I Expect To See Results?

Vascular laser treatments produce quick results. Since patients schedule treatments for various skin concerns of different severities, results will vary.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you’ve tried different treatment options to remove vascular lesions from different areas of your skin but have yet to achieve your desired results, you may be a good candidate for one of our laser treatments. It’s important to know beforehand that our vascular laser may be more effective in treating certain skin tones.

If you are unsure whether you qualify for treatment, we can schedule a consultation at our office. We can evaluate your treatment area in person, give you more details about the treatment process, and then design a treatment plan to help you achieve uniform skin tone and texture. At that time, we can also give you more details about how many treatments you will need to achieve your desired results.
