This is a frequent and great question from many clients!

But first, let us all get one thing straight: Wrinkles are actually visible damage on our skin surface, but they can be caused by a couple of different reasons. Understanding what caused your wrinkles will help you understand the difference between Botox and dermal filler. So here we go!

The wrinkles that are created by muscle movement are treated with neuromodulators, such as Botox or Dysport. At SWMPHS we are proud to offer both of these product options! In general, these medications are injected into the muscle to temporarily prevent your muscle from flexing so intensely. Once the muscle creating the wrinkle has been effectively relaxed, your skin begins to heal, and you notice this as tighter and more youthful looking skin! One of our favorite things about neuromodulators is that they are truly preventative!

With consistent treatments, the treated muscles become slightly weaker because they are not flexing quite as much. This targeted muscle relaxation treatment is a wonderful self-care routine because it simply prevents your muscles from creating new wrinkles! In time, even deep lines or wrinkles can fully heal. Importantly, wrinkles can heal faster when your injections are paired with your daily use of great skincare products.

At SWMPHS, we offer premium skincare products that will help restore your skin’s surface toward a rapid recovery!

In comparison, some wrinkles are created by volume loss. While these signs of natural aging can be difficult for many clients to experience, dermal filler products such as Restylane or Juvederm can certainly help! Treatment with dermal filler is used to temporarily replace your tissue volume that has been lost during natural aging. Tissue volume can also be a naturally occuring deficit that perhaps you were born with, and have wondered how to improve this area. Additionally, tissue volume loss can even be caused by an injury. Regardless of the reason for your tissue volume loss, all of these injectable gels can be artistically sculpted by our registered aesthetic nurse to help define your face and body. Overall, treatment with dermal fillers provides you with a smoother and more youthful appearance.

One of our favorite things about dermal fillers is that they offer nearly instant results!

This means that you will see improvements before you leave your treatment session. However, it’s important to be aware that sometimes your immediate changes can also include some mild swelling. If you do experience any mild swelling, this typically resolves in a few days and after that your dermal fillers will be beautifully blended into your treated areas. Lastly, both neuromodulators and dermal fillers have their own specific powers but they also work very well together as a team! If you have concerns with both types of wrinkles, you certainly can receive both treatments during the same appointment!

Our team at SWMPHS is happy to answer any questions you might have, and we would love to meet you for a consultation! During your time with us, our registered aesthetic nurse will discuss your personal appearance goals, answer any questions, and develop your personalized treatment plan. At SWMPHS, our mission is to help you achieve your ideal image within a timeline that is understanding of your individual needs.
