How Is Dysport Treatment Performed?

Wrinkles are one of the most common signs of aging. They are also one of the most undesirable. At Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, our Dysport injections could be the solution to wrinkles that you’ve been waiting for.

How Is Dysport Treatment Performed?

Are you looking for ways to maintain a youthful appearance? An injectable could be the right method for you. Injectables offer non-invasive solutions for many of the most undesirable signs of aging. They can be effective for treating a variety of wrinkles around the face and neck area.

Dysport is a fantastic injectable that is derived from the same source as Botox. When you receive this treatment, a fine, precise needle will be used to apply the product. This will help your skin look fuller, which in turn makes you look younger and healthier.

What Is Dysport?

This treatment comes from the same bacterium as Botox. This bacterium is called Clostridium botulinum, and it is used to form a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A. The words “Bacterium” and “neurotoxin” can sound scary, but this is a completely safe, FDA-approved method of treating issues like fine lines and wrinkles.

The bacterium used to make products like this and Botox can be found in a variety of places. It appears naturally in forests, plants, animals, and different soils.

How Does It Work?

Your brain sends certain signals called neurotransmitters to your muscles. These neurotransmitters tell your muscles to do a variety of things, including tensing and contracting. Unfortunately, this tension often results in the wrinkling of the skin above the muscle.

If you are getting an injectable like this, then the neuromodulator that is being injected into the muscle stops the signal from your brain from reaching that specific muscle. The enzyme contained within the treatment binds to the proteins that are used to send the signals to your nerves, preventing them from traveling to your muscle. That forces the muscle to relax, which will smooth out those fine lines and wrinkles appearing on the skin.

Why Do Wrinkles Appear?

Wrinkles are an almost inevitable part of life. As we get older, it’s entirely natural for wrinkles to show up. They’re one of the biggest signs of aging. But why do wrinkles show up in the first place? There are a few factors that can contribute to the appearance and severity of wrinkles. The first is that as you age, the amount of collagen and elastin in your skin begins to get lower. These proteins are what allow your skin to maintain its elasticity and structure, so their reduction results in sagging, wrinkled skin.

This combined with other elements can result in wrinkles showing up. Repeated facial movements make your skin crease, and since your skin creases in the same way, eventually, they will begin to stick. One of the other factors you need to consider when it comes to the formation of wrinkles is the sun. The sun’s UV rays penetrate your skin and affect the amount of collagen and elastin present, which, of course, will result in wrinkles.

What Does Dysport Treat?

The main use of this treatment is to reduce or even eliminate the appearance of frown lines. These are the lines that appear in between your brows and are a result of frowning. They can also be called “11 lines,” because they often appear as two parallel lines.

This is an extremely effective treatment method if you are looking to get rid of your frown lines for a more relaxed, happier appearance. But frown lines aren’t the only type of wrinkle that this injectable can treat. You’ll find that it is effective at achieving a variety of results.

Crow’s Feet

While the injectable’s primary purpose is treating frown lines, it’s also a great treatment for those who are looking to get rid of their crow’s feet. These are the wrinkles that appear around the corners of your eyes. They are formed by frequent squinting.

When you receive this injectable for your crow’s feet, you’ll find that the areas around your eyes are smoothed out for a younger, natural look.

Forehead Wrinkles

Frown lines aren’t the only wrinkles that appear on and around your forehead. Raising your brow frequently can result in horizontal lines across your forehead, which can make you look concerned or surprised.

This injectable can help to reduce the appearance of these types of wrinkles, offering you a more relaxed and happier appearance overall.

What Are the Benefits?

If you’re looking for a safe and effective way to get rid of unwanted wrinkles around your forehead and eye areas, then this treatment method is a fantastic option. There is a myriad of benefits that come with getting an injectable like this one.

It Looks Natural

One of the major benefits of going with this injectable is how natural it looks. There are many different injectables available, but not all of them offer particularly natural-looking results. If you want to get the youthful appearance you’ve been dreaming of without having to field those awkward “Did you get work done?” questions, then this could be the perfect treatment for you.

This is because this injectable has a thinner consistency than its counterpart Botox. Dysport can spread much more evenly under the skin, offering you more natural, subtle results that won’t beg any dreaded questions from friends and family.

It’s Fast

There are plenty of treatment options available for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, including surgical options. But one of the major drawbacks of these procedures is that they can take a long time. You’ll spend hours under the knife, and you’ll also need to account for the recovery time that needs to come afterward.

You don’t need to worry about that when you get this injectable. The treatment itself is, generally, very fast and shouldn’t take much longer than around half an hour. You also won’t need to worry about any significant recovery time. You’ll need to be careful to avoid certain things, but there won’t be a weeks-long healing period afterward.

You’ll Get Results Quickly

Some treatment options for getting rid of wrinkles can take weeks or even months to get you the results you want. But when you get an injectable like this one, your results will be almost immediate.

You’ll see a change in your appearance within a day of receiving your treatment. Over the next few weeks, you’ll begin to see even more significant results. This makes it a fantastic option for those who are looking to get results fast.

You’ll Look Younger

Because wrinkles are such a prominent sign of aging, getting rid of them will help you look and feel younger. Wrinkles may be natural, but that doesn’t mean you have to put up with them.

An injectable like this will help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, which will provide you with a much younger, healthier appearance.

It Lasts a Long Time

Injectables offer temporary solutions for wrinkles, but temporary doesn’t mean short-lived. When you receive this injectable, you can expect to maintain your results for a long time. You’ll need to get more treatments, but you can go a relatively long time in between them.

Most people can go 3 to 4 months between treatment sessions. The more injections you have, the longer you’ll likely be able to wait between them.

It Can Be a Good Preventative Measure

Wrinkles may begin to appear on your body sooner than you might be expecting. This is especially true for your face since the skin here is much thinner than it is on the rest of your body. Depending on a variety of factors, most people tend to see wrinkles beginning to form in their late 20s to 30s.

This injectable can help get rid of wrinkles that are already appearing on your face. But if you want to stop them from appearing in the first place, then Dysport can do that too.

What Happens at My Appointment?

If you are thinking of getting this injectable, then the first thing that will happen is we’ll consult with you about your expectations and your desired results. This will help us determine how to proceed with the treatment, and make sure that the treatment plan we come up with is right for you. Once this has been discussed, we’ll get you ready to receive your injection.

Before injecting the product, we will thoroughly clean the targeted areas to remove any grime or buildup on the skin. Then, a very fine and precise needle will be used to inject the Dysport. Afterward, a cold compress will be applied to prevent swelling and redness. Any swelling that does come up will fade quickly, and you’ll be able to leave the clinic soon after the injection is done.

What Do I Do After?

One of the major benefits of injectables is that they require very little recovery time once the treatment is complete. However, there are still some things you should be aware of if you want to make sure that the injectable can give you the results you want.

For about 4 hours after the treatment, you will need to avoid lying down to prevent the injectable from spreading away from the targeted areas. You should also take care to avoid strenuous activity, heat, and sunlight for the first few days after your treatment.

Who Will It Work for?

There are very few people for whom this treatment won’t work. Most people can receive this injectable, but an allergy test may need to be done before the treatment if you have shown sensitivities to certain things in the past. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid getting injectables, and those with skin infections on or around the targeted areas are also not recommended to receive them.

This is a great option for people looking to get rid of any wrinkles that have already appeared on the forehead area. It also works for candidates who are looking to prevent them from appearing at all. When you visit our clinic, we will make sure that this treatment works for you.

Look and Feel Younger

Dysport is a fantastic way to get the youthful, healthy-looking skin you want in a way that’s subtle and safe. You’ll erase the appearance of unwanted frown lines as well as other types of wrinkles around the forehead and eyes. What Can You Expect From a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy Tuck

It’s not easy to lose weight. It’s even harder to maintain weight. Unfortunately, even if you’re at an ideal weight, you can still have stubborn pockets of fat that affect your contours. Luckily, at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, we offer abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, to help our clients achieve their desired contours. Keep reading to find out what you can expect from the procedure.

What Can You Expect From a Tummy Tuck?

There are three primary things you can expect from a tummy tuck:

  • The removal of excess skin
  • The elimination of a protruding lower abdomen
  • The tightening of loose skin and muscles

Additionally, a small amount of excess fat is excised during this Tummy Tuck procedure. However, since it is not a fat removal procedure, you should only expect minimal localized fat loss. If a significant amount of fat loss is required for you to achieve your ideal contours, you will need to combine this procedure with liposuction.

Post-Pregnancy

Your body changes after you deliver a baby. One of the most common visible changes to a new mother’s body is a more prominent abdomen. As the fetus grows in the womb, the abdominal skin is rapidly and significantly stretched. This takes an incredible toll on the proteins in the skin that keep it elastic, so your skin may not firm up after you give birth and lose your baby weight.

Regardless of your weight before, during or after pregnancy, there is a good chance your lower abdomen will protrude. This is sometimes called a pregnancy pouch. Note, pregnancy doesn’t just stretch your skin. The growing fetus also stretches the abdominal walls. Once the baby has been delivered, a bulge can occur in the soft tissues surrounding the abdominal muscles, leading to lower back pain and uncomfortable bloating.

Weight Loss

Weight loss, like pregnancy, can leave you with excess skin. While pregnancy takes a toll on skin elasticity for under a year, excess weight can take a toll on skin elasticity for years. The effect excess fat has on your skin’s supportive structures is a lot like stretching a rubber band to its limit. If the weight loss is substantial enough, it may be impossible to tighten sagging skin.

If you lost a lot of weight but you’re young and otherwise healthy, it may take up to 18 months for your skin to tighten. Additionally, a successful weight loss journey may leave behind a stomach that protrudes noticeably. A number of factors have the potential to cause the storage of abdominal fat, including genetics, stress, diet, and lifestyle.

What To Expect Throughout the Process

As noted above, the results you can expect from abdominoplasty include the elimination of excess skin and fat.  Additionally, the abdominal walls are supported and, sometimes, repaired.  The bottom line is you can expect a significantly improved appearance after the procedure. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect in the earlier stages of the process:

An Initial Consultation

Before your procedure, we will review your health history and current health thoroughly. We will also ensure this procedure will help you achieve your goals by discussing your cosmetic and medical goals. At this point in the process, it is imperative we know about your:

  • Previous procedures
  • Routines and lifestyle choices
  • Allergies
  • Current pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements

We will also conduct a physical examination of the area, measuring the circumference of your waist and body fat distribution. Additionally, we will photograph your abdominal region. Finally, we will tailor a treatment plan to help you achieve all of your goals.

The Procedure

Depending on the extent of the goals you are trying to achieve, your procedure may take anywhere from two to four hours. It is an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to return home after your procedure is over. In fact, you don’t even need to go to a hospital for this procedure to be performed.

The first step in the procedure process is administering general anesthesia. Once your abdominal region is sanitized and you are asleep and numb, a horizontal incision will be made between your bikini line and navel. How large the incision will be depends on the amount of excess skin you have. This will be discussed in further detail during your initial consultation.

Abdominal Walls

Once the incision is made, your abdominal skin will be lifted. This gives us access to the abdominal muscles beneath the skin. If necessary, these muscles will be repaired. To understand the medical importance of abdominoplasty, you should know your abdominal walls are made up of eight muscles. Two sets of four muscles are horizontally symmetrical. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds your abdominal muscles and keeps them connected to each other.

While the abdominal muscles are elastic, the fascia that holds them together is inelastic. For this reason, when your stomach region expands due to pregnancy or excess weight storage, your abdominal region loosens. The fascia cannot recover from this. In severe cases, a protruding belly results from this. Again, your fascia will not “bounce back.” Even if you maintain a lower weight through diet and exercise, only abdominoplasty can restore your fascia and abdominal muscles.

How the Muscles Are Improved

Permanent sutures are used to reverse muscle separation resulting from pulled fascia. We stitch these sutures vertically along the muscle edges, buried deep within the tissue never to be seen or felt.

You’ll enjoy tighter, stronger abdominal muscles, but you will basically forget the sutures are still inside your abdomen. Horizontal sutures may also be stitched into your muscles if there is extreme muscle laxity. These so-called corset sutures help you look sleeker and stronger.

Excess Skin

After we have repaired your abdominal muscles, we will put your abdominal skin back in place. Then, we will trim any excess skin that is causing an abdominal pouch or extends too far.

We will make a second incision around the navel if you have excess upper abdominal skin. Once all of your excess skin is removed, the healthy, taut skin is sutured closed. We are also more than happy to adjust the position of your navel if that will help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

The Recovery Process

Everyone heals in a unique manner, so we can’t tell you exactly what you should expect during your recovery process. However, you will definitely need someone to drive you home after your procedure.

You should not drive within 24 hours of your procedure because general anesthesia can cause drowsiness and slow reflexes. Additionally, it is strongly advisable to have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours post-op so you can focus all of your attention on resting.

Pharmaceuticals

You may benefit from taking prescription analgesics during the first couple of days following your procedure. Make sure you take these as needed and directed. For example, take your medication with 8 ounces of fluid if the instructions advise you to.

Whether you want to take prescription analgesics or not, you must take a full course of antibiotics as directed. If you have any questions about the medications you have been prescribed, please let us know. We are happy to answer all of your questions.

Diet

During the first 24 hours post-op, you should move as little as possible. Ideally, your diet will consist of foods that require minimal preparation. Yogurt, unsalted nuts and fresh produce are great options because they are high in micronutrients and energy. If you don’t like the idea of grazing instead of eating a meal, prepare meals before your procedure that keep well in the refrigerator or freezer. Alternatively, have a loved one cooked for you while you rest.

Furthermore, it is very important to stay hydrated throughout your recovery process. Make an effort to drink at least half a gallon of water and tea throughout the day. If you are taking prescription analgesics, you may need to increase your fluid consumption. If you want to drink juice, have someone make you homemade juice. Juice available for purchase at the store is highly processed. Sugar can slow your recovery process.

Walking

Walking is a very important part of your recovery process. As soon as your body is feeling up to it, start walking at a slow pace. The idea isn’t to get your heart rate extremely elevated.

The goal is to get your blood flowing so more essential micronutrients are delivered to the abdominal region, speeding up your healing process significantly.

Going Back to Work

Depending on the nature of your occupation, you may need to take between one and two weeks off from work. We will advise you on how much time you should expect to take off from work during your initial consultation based on the scope of the procedure and the type of work you do.

Taking Small Steps

Most people return to driving within a few days of their procedure. However, it is important to understand you may not drive within 24 hours of taking certain prescription analgesics. If you’re not taking prescription analgesics, but you don’t feel up to driving, don’t force your body to do something uncomfortable. The key to a successful, rapid recovery is listening to your body and not pushing it too hard.

We cannot overstate how important rest is to your recovery process. Ease into your old workout routine very slowly after your procedure. Remember, you are encouraged to walk slowly as soon as you are feeling up to it. You may resume anaerobic exercise approximately six weeks after your procedure and aerobic exercise roughly eight weeks post-op.

Tobacco Consumption

Tobacco consumption should be avoided during the six weeks leading up to your procedure because nicotine can affect the procedure. Furthermore, nicotine will slow the recovery process. It is advisable to not consume any tobacco products during the first six weeks following your procedure.

Results

It may take a couple of weeks for you to start seeing the improvements made by this procedure. However, your abdominal muscles will feel tighter as soon as the Tummy Tuck procedure is over. Maintaining proper posture will be easier for you and you will no longer experience back pain caused by weak abdominal muscles.

Who Can Benefit From Liposuction?

Liposuction

Although many people successfully lose weight by changing their diet and exercising more, this doesn’t always work. Because weight loss isn’t targeted to specific areas, you may not achieve the exact body shape you desire by simply eating right and working out. If this is the case, liposuction may be a great option for you. Here at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, we offer this Liposuction treatment to a wide range of patients.

While it is a great option that works in many different scenarios, it’s not for everyone. If you have not tried dieting, are a senior, or are severely overweight, you may need to explore other options, either in addition to or instead of this treatment. Let’s explore who can benefit from it and what results you can expect.

What Is Liposuction?

If you’ve never considered this option before, you may be wondering what the Liposuction treatment involves. Basically, it is a two-step process and the patient is under general anesthesia the whole time, which guarantees a pain-free experience. First, a substance called tumescent fluid is injected into the local area to numb the tissue, then a thin tube called a cannula will be inserted. Up to 6 liters of excess fat can be removed through this tube at one time.

The treatment can be applied to many different areas of the body, including the love handles, buttocks, thighs, neck, or back. The best part about it is that the fat cells are removed completely, which means that they won’t come back at a later date. Thus, you only have to undergo treatment once and the results will be immediate and permanent. What’s more, it can be performed in an ambulatory surgical facility and you won’t have to stay at the hospital overnight.

Who Can Benefit The Most?

Now that you know what the treatment does and how it works, let’s discuss who might be an ideal candidate for it and what factors may affect eligibility. Anyone who is in good general health, leads a healthy lifestyle, and has realistic expectations of both the process and the results should be able to benefit from this treatment. For women, it may be most appropriate once they are done having children.

General Health

The treatment is very safe and you are unlikely to experience any complications. Despite this, it is a surgery performed under general anesthetic, so patients have to be screened for health conditions before being accepted. Prior to getting started, you’ll come to the clinic for an initial consultation to determine whether you can benefit from this surgery. We will assess your current health and your goals to see whether it is the optimal solution.

When meeting with Dr. Elluru, be sure to disclose your entire medical history to avoid putting yourself at risk. Specifically, taking blood-thinning medication, being pregnant or breastfeeding, and cardiovascular issues may require special treatment or preclude you from taking part.

Lifestyle Factors

There is a double benefit to living a healthy lifestyle prior to having the surgery. Firstly, your recovery process will be much smoother if your body is generally well. If you abstain from excessive alcohol consumption, nicotine, and unhealthy foods, the general anesthesia will be much safer, so this is usually a requirement.

Secondly, having healthy habits will help you to maintain the benefits of the treatment in the long term. While surgery can provide you with the perfect body shape, you will maintain this by eating well and providing your body with plenty of healthy exercises.

Weight Gain Issues

When you undergo this type of treatment, your fat cells are removed from the body and they won’t return. However, that doesn’t mean that all of the fat cells in the area will be gone and you will have the perfect body shape forever. Some still remain, although they won’t be as plentiful as before. If you have trouble maintaining a healthy diet, you will still gain weight and lose the contours the treatment helped you to achieve.

That’s why it’s important that patients are confident they will be able to maintain the results in the months and years after their appointment. In certain cases, it may be advisable to speak to a nutritionist or a weight loss coach before undergoing surgery to make sure that the results remain in place long-term.

Age

As a general rule, patients must be adults at the time of the surgery to guarantee good results. Once you’re past adolescence, you can’t produce any more fat cells, which means that the ones that are removed won’t be able to grow back. On the other end of the spectrum, the balance of your sex hormones has to be taken into consideration. After the age of 55, they may have changed significantly, in which case they can affect your weight.

If you are older, it’s important to test your levels of estrogen and testosterone to rule out an imbalance before undergoing surgery. Left untreated, this could cause you to put the weight back on after liposuction and prevent you from achieving optimal results. Luckily, you can still take part even if there is an issue, as this can be resolved with hormone therapy. Your doctor will discuss this option with you if you suffer from hormone-related weight issues.

Condition Of The Skin

Another issue that affects older people is the loss of elasticity in the skin. After age 20, we lose 1% of the protein collagen in our skin every year. This is why certain areas of our body may wrinkle or sag as we grow older. In terms of fat removal, it’s important that the skin is elastic enough that it will snap back after several liters of liquid have been removed. We will assess the condition of your skin during your initial appointment to make sure this will be the case.

If not, you may need to undergo additional treatment to prevent your skin from sagging for up to 14 months after the surgery. There are several options open to you, such as micro-needling, which can be performed right here at the clinic.

Decreasing Body Fat Percentage

If you have been trying to lose weight and reduce your body fat percentage for a while, you are likely to be a good candidate. This is especially true if you have already lost some weight through dieting and exercising and are now looking to change the amount of fat in proportion to the amount of muscle in your body.

To achieve the two goals, cutting fat and gaining muscle mass, you may need to consult with a certified personal trainer. Such a professional can help keep your diet on track by including lots of protein, encouraging you to exercise regularly, and providing you with the motivation you need to stay on track. If in doubt, speak to Dr. Elluru or our team for some recommendations.

Realistic Weight Loss Goals

As mentioned, the ideal patient has already lost some weight or has been at a stable, healthy weight for a while, but would simply like to remove some excess fat from areas that are hard to target. In general, patients see greater success if they are within 30 pounds of their target weight, as the proportion of fat lost will make a much bigger difference.

Remember, only 5-6 liters can be taken off at one time to ensure the patient’s safety. This means that people with very big weight loss goals won’t notice much difference, but people who have almost reached their target will instantly see dramatic results from the surgery.

Factors Affecting Women

The FDA has been researching this treatment for years, and there is no evidence that a woman’s ability to have children is negatively affected by it. However, many doctors advise women to wait until after they are done having children because pregnancy and childbirth significantly affect the hormones in the body. For example, the stress hormone cortisol is increased when a woman is pregnant, which can cause more hunger.

To make sure the fat loss treatment is successful and you won’t need to undergo it again in the future, consider having it done after your last pregnancy. That way, your body’s hormones have returned to their normal levels.

Factors Affecting Men

Although men don’t have to worry about children affecting their treatment, they are still in the minority when it comes to undergoing this type of surgery. Only a little over 40% of patients are male, but numbers are soaring as more and more men are realizing that there is an easy solution for their issue with excess fat. There are many situations in which it can be beneficial, but maybe the most important one is pseudo-gynecomastia.

Men suffering from this condition have swollen and enlarged breasts because too much subcutaneous fat is stored in the area. This can be due to a hormonal issue, genetics, or medications, and does not necessarily mean a man is overweight. Unlike other types of gynecomastia, breast removal surgery is not an option because the issue is fat, not excess tissue. That’s why liposuction is the ideal solution.

Expectations of the Recovery Process

Aside from your physical health and goals, we will also discuss the recovery process during your Liposuction initial consultation. Surgery will only be recommended if you agree to the recovery process, which may include resting at home for the first week, avoiding high-intensity exercise, and taking the antibiotics recommended by your doctor. The people who see the best results are those who religiously stick to these guidelines.

Expectations of the Results

The Liposuction treatment can provide amazing results for anyone struggling with stubborn fat reserves, but it’s important to remain realistic. Patients who start to consume a large surplus of food after the surgery won’t be able to maintain the results, so keep in mind that you’ll still have to eat healthily and stay active. The surgery can create your ideal body contours, but it will be up to you to keep them in the long term.

This is because not all of the fat cells will be removed, so your body still stores extra energy. In small areas such as the underarms or chin, up to 80% of the cells will be removed, but in larger areas like the back, it is around 20-25%. This means that there’s a smaller chance of a recurring issue, but only if you work to keep your beautiful new contours by following a healthy diet.

Regain Your Perfect Contours Now

Liposuction is a great option for a wide variety of adults who struggle with excess fat, especially if it is in localized areas and doesn’t respond to traditional methods such as diet and exercise. To find out if this is the perfect option for you, contact Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI. We routinely perform this surgery and will be delighted to speak to you about regaining your perfect contours.

When Should You Consider Getting Treatment for Gynecomastia?

The appearance of breasts makes men feel self-conscious. However, this is a common medical condition called gynecomastia. With the help of an expert who understands the cause and symptoms of your condition, it can be treated. At Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, we understand the potential causes of this condition and how to treat the symptoms depending on the cause.

We understand that male breasts develop differently than female breasts and gynecomastia can affect a man’s self-esteem negatively. We’re available to assist you with the exploration of your treatment methods via diagnosing the cause of your condition and helping you understand the unique benefits of each treatment method.

When Should You Consider Getting Treatment for Gynecomastia?

You should consider getting treatment for gynecomastia when you notice the symptoms of the condition and are diagnosed with the condition. It is important to seek a diagnosis from a trained professional because the appearance of male breasts may be a sign of a serious medical condition.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms of This Condition?

The first sign of this medical condition to appear is most commonly a small lump of excess adipose tissue beneath the nipples. Many men fear this is a sign of breast cancer; a common cancer that affects roughly one out of every hundred men. However, a small lump under the nipple may not be breast cancer. Rather, it may be a sign that you are developing male breasts. Feel free to speak to your general practitioner if you are worried you have breast cancer.

He may refer you to an oncologist to ease your anxiety. Boys who develop this condition while going through puberty may find the chest is tender to the touch. This discomfort can be managed easily with over-the-counter analgesics. Breasts usually look abnormally large and asymmetrical. Speaking with a professional and getting an accurate diagnosis is important to rule out other medical conditions.

How Often Does This Condition Occur?

The development of male breasts in adolescents is common. Swelling is a natural response to hormone changes. However, in the case of adolescents developing male breasts, the condition usually resolves itself after a year or two as hormone levels begin to settle. Roughly 50% of males between the age of 12 and 16 will experience swelling to some degree in one or both breasts.

Since male breasts caused by puberty will resolve themselves over time, there is no need for medical intervention. Unfortunately, approximately 25% of men between the ages of 50 and 80 will develop male breasts and the condition may lead to sore breast tissue. The older men get, the lower their testosterone levels drop. Among the causes of low testosterone in older men are:

  • Testicular cancer
  • Cancer treatments, like chemo or radiotherapy
  • Injuries
  • Unhealthy testicular cells
  • Maladies that affect the brain

How Is This Condition Diagnosed?

We may need to run diagnostic tests to diagnose your condition accurately but we will definitely ask you many questions about your condition to get a complete picture of your case. We must be aware of your medical history and hereditary conditions your direct family members, like your siblings, parents, or grandparents, have. We will also perform a physical evaluation to assess your breast tissue and your abdominal and genital regions.

We also need a list of all herbal products, supplements, and drugs you are currently taking or have taken within the past couple of weeks. Furthermore, we need to know how old you were when you first started to notice a change in the size of your breasts. Finally, it is absolutely crucial that you clearly communicate any other symptoms, including discharge or pain.

What Diagnostic Tests Should I Expect?

To identify the cause of your condition, we will need blood samples, urine samples, and mammograms. These diagnostic tests are particularly helpful if your breasts are abnormally large. Depending on the initial results of these diagnostic tests, additional testing may be necessary. For example, you may need an MRI scan, a CT scan, a biopsy of your breast tissue, or an ultrasound of your testes to rule out certain causes for the development of your male breasts.

Our physicians will discuss the results of each test with you and explain the unique advantages of each treatment method. The goal of these diagnostic tests is to ensure the uncomfortable swelling you are experiencing is caused by the development of male breast tissue rather than adipose tissue, breast cancer, or other causes.

How Can This Condition Be Treated or Managed?

The longer you live with enlarged breasts, the more important it is to consider treatment. When we meet with you to evaluate your enlarged breasts, we will discuss your treatment preferences and design a treatment plan that accounts for your preferences, age, and overall health. Understand, each case is different and we work diligently to identify the cause of each case so we can offer the most successful treatment plan for each client.

Counseling

As mentioned previously, it is incredibly common for adolescents to experience swollen breasts as they go through puberty but this change is not permanent and the best course of action is to wait for the swelling to resolve itself. Unfortunately, it can be difficult for boys to cope with having a feminine appearance. The thought of changing in the school locker room or swimming in the neighborhood pool can be difficult.

When they have no choice but to change before gym class, they may feel stress or develop depression or anxiety. If an adolescent is showing signs of mental health conditions, he should seek counseling. He should also be reminded that the changes to his body are a natural part of becoming a man and they will not last forever.

Discontinuing the Use of Certain Drugs

When older men develop enlarged breasts, the cause is often medications. The first step in treating male breasts in such cases is to discontinue the use of those drugs. If you are taking a prescription medication to treat a medical condition, ask your physician about alternative therapies that will not cause you to develop gynecomastia.

A trip to an endocrinologist is also in order if you need help with hormone-related issues. Furthermore, it is important to minimize your consumption of alcohol, especially beer. Most types of beer include phytoestrogen, a chemical derived from plants that has the same effect on men’s bodies as estrogen. It even causes the body to produce more estrogen, causing the development of male breasts.

Hormone Therapy

If your male breasts are caused by low serum testosterone levels, you must receive treatment for your low testosterone. Luckily, there is testosterone replacement therapy to get your testosterone back up to where it needs to be so the condition does not recur. There are numerous testosterone therapy options, including injections, patches, and gels applied to your skin. Regardless of your lifestyle, there is a treatment option for you.

There are several ways testosterone therapy will help you besides preventing your male breasts from coming back. You will notice that you have more energy and a higher sex drive. Testosterone therapy can even treat mood disorders and improve your outlook on life. Furthermore, if your male breasts are caused by low testosterone, you may not need to undergo a procedure to restore your masculine physique.

Cosmetic Procedures

In some cases, the most effective treatment method for excess male breast tissue is a cosmetic procedure. Male breast reduction can refer to one of two procedures that deliver a more masculine appearance by removing excess fat and glandular tissue. The results of these procedures last for years and may even provide results that last forever.

After your procedure or procedures, you can expect to feel a level of self-confidence that you haven’t felt in years. After assessing your physique, we will discuss these two options with you and help you understand the advantages of each based on your unique case.

Liposuction

If you have the appearance of male breasts due to a large amount of adipose tissue in your chest, liposuction is the best course of action for you. This procedure may be performed using local or general anesthesia depending on your health and personal preference. During this procedure, small incisions will be made on each side of your chest.

Then, a fine tube will be inserted into the incisions to loosen up the excess adipose tissue. Finally, it will be suctioned out of your body. We will also sculpt a natural-looking, masculine contour for your chest. Once the procedure is over, you need to wear a compression garment for two weeks to hasten the recovery process. You should also avoid strenuous exercise for roughly three weeks as you wrap up your recovery process.

Mastectomy

Sometimes referred to as tissue excision, mastectomy involves the removal of glandular tissue from the chest. It is the most appropriate option for cases of extremely enlarged male breasts and strongly recommended when the breasts are accompanied by sagging skin. A large volume of excess fat tissue can also be removed during this procedure. Like liposuction, there is no need for an overnight hospital stay and it can be performed under general or local anesthesia.

You have some say in where the incisions will be made but the ideal incision locations are also influenced by your unique condition. Again, like liposuction, there is a recovery process but after approximately one week you should feel ready to return to your usual routine. However, you should not engage in any intense physical activity for at least 21 days following your procedure. After this procedure, you should see an instant enhancement in the appearance of your chest.

Excess breast tissue in men can cause emotional turmoil. When left untreated, it often leads to low self-esteem. Although gynecomastia sometimes resolves itself, there are ways to treat the condition now if you don’t want to wait and see if it will improve. The longer you have lived with enlarged breasts, the more important it is to seek treatment. This is particularly true if you are in your 50s.

How Many Sessions Do You Need for Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal can be an effective, easy, and virtually painless way to get the smooth skin that you crave. With the help of our professional team at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, Michigan, you can look and feel your best for years to come. Many people are turning to this type of treatment to remove their unwanted hair and look beach-ready any time of the year, and it’s easy to understand the appeal. It works, and the results can last for years.

How Many Sessions Are Needed for Laser Hair Removal?

This type of treatment is best done in a series of sessions. Each person is different, so it’s difficult to tell exactly how many sessions will be needed without an initial consultation. Generally, people need between six and eight sessions to remove the hair fully. That’s because our hair goes through different growth phases. The bodily location where you want the hair removed also factors in. Our expert team will assess your specific situation and give you a timeline of what you can expect.

If you’re having hair removed from your face, you can schedule appointments once every four weeks. If you want to remove hair from your body, aim for every month and a half. We will work with you to craft a treatment schedule that works for you and your body and takes your existing appointments into account.

How Can I Make the Treatment Go Smoother?

If you want your treatment to go as smoothly as possible, make sure that your skin is freshly shaved but not waxed, bleached, or plucked before your appointment. Shaved skin makes it easier for the laser to penetrate and target active hairs. It’s a good idea to avoid the sun or any spray tans before your appointment, and you should avoid using lotion, deodorant, or makeup on the day of your appointment. Your skin should be fresh, clean, and free of any products.

Retin-A, which is found in many anti-aging products and acne medications, can cause complications during the treatment, so stop using these products for a few days before your appointment. Generally, people can resume product usage about five days after their laser session. Still, since everyone is different, it’s a good idea to talk to us before you start using the products again. You can check your products for Retin-A by simply reading the active ingredients or going online. When in doubt, cut it out. Your skin will thank you.

How Long Will I Have to Wait to See Results?

Many people see a thinning of their hair right after the treatment, although everyone is different, and the results will depend on how your body reacts to the laser and what kind of hair you have. Since it takes several sessions to eradicate hair in a specific area completely, you should expect that your hair will grow back a little bit. Generally speaking, the new hair is a lot finer and lighter than the removed hair.

Your existing hair should start to shed after the treatment. The best way to get rid of it is to wipe it away with a warm washcloth gently. Resist the urge to scrub too hard because you might irritate the skin.

Is There Any Downtime?

One of the biggest perks of this treatment is that there’s really no downtime and the sessions themselves are virtually pain-free. Most people find this treatment preferable to other options, such as waxing, which tends to be rougher on the skin.

What to Expect During a Session

The targeted area will be treated to several laser pulses that will seek out the hair root and follicle. The lasers kill the follicle, so they can’t produce additional hair. Since hair grows at different times, the treatment must be done in a few different sessions to fully address all of the follicles in any given area. Most people find the treatment to be fairly pain-free.

What Happens After Your Treatment

After you get laser hair removal, try to stay out of the sun and avoid waxing or picking at your skin right after the treatment. You should also avoid putting any scented products or Retinol creams on the skin. Keep it clean and use a bit of baby powder to keep the area cool and dry. After the treatment, many people notice that their hair starts to slough off, and the skin underneath is luminous, smooth, and lovely.

Common Reasons People Get This Treatment

There are plenty of reasons why people prefer laser hair removal to other types of treatments. It’s a great investment in the long run, and it’s certainly far less painful than other alternatives.

Saves Time and Money

Think about all of the time you spend shaving and all of the money you put into razors, shaving creams, and other parts of your shaving or waxing kit. Lasers get rid of your unwanted hair for good, saving you lots of time and money in the long run.

Minimize Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs can be unsightly and also lead to infections if they’re plucked. Lasers minimize or even eliminate unwanted ingrown hairs, and many people who get these treatments done to find that they no longer have to deal with them again.

Look Great All Summer Long

You can look great all winter long as well, but the summers are when we tend to show off more skin. Since hair doesn’t grow back on laser-treated skin, you won’t have to worry about missing a spot shaving or waxing. You can go to the beach with the full confidence that you look totally hairless and bathing suit ready. This assurance can raise your confidence and make you feel better about your body.

Permanent Solution

Unlike other hair removal techniques, lasers are a permanent solution to unwanted hair. Once the follicle and root are destroyed, the hair is gone forever. This makes the treatment an excellent option for those who are looking to get rid of hair for good.

Smooth, Luxurious Skin

Hairless skin is smooth, luxurious skin. Imagine having soft, hairless skin that feels freshly waxed or shaved without going through the trouble of waxing or shaving? That’s how people who get laser hair removal feel every day. There’s no stubble or unwanted, patchy hair.

Everyone experiences different benefits of laser hair removal. Talk to us about what your objectives are, and we should be able to tell you what to expect and what excellent benefits you can expect after your hair removal sessions.

Where Can I Get This Treatment Done?

You can get this treatment done virtually anywhere on your body. Many people opt for the face, specifically areas of your eyebrows, upper lip, and nose, or underarms, bikini line, legs, chest, and arms. You can certainly get it done on more than one body part, and many people who have experienced laser hair removal firsthand like to continue treating other areas of their bodies.

Alternatives to This Treatment

Those who don’t opt for laser removal have several different options when it comes to getting rid of unwanted hair. Unfortunately, these alternatives are simply not as effective as lasers and are generally considered to be temporary fixes.

Tweezing

Tweezing is a way of ripping out single or small bunches of hair with tweezers. It’s a good way to sculpt eyebrows or deal with one or two unwanted hairs. It’s not a permanent solution to hair removal, and realistically it can only be done in small areas of the body.

Topical Hair Removal Lotions

You can buy topical hair removal lotions or creams over the counter. Many of them are specifically designed for a particular part of the body, and you shouldn’t attempt to apply them in a different area. Although these creams tend to work, many of them are loaded with chemicals and can cause adverse reactions. If you opt for this hair removal system, test a small area of your body first to make sure that you’re not allergic.

One of the biggest benefits of laser removal treatments is that there’s virtually no chance of an allergic reaction.

Shaving

Shaving is one of the most common ways to get rid of unwanted hair. Although it’s relatively painless and you can shave anywhere on your body, shaving will not remove hair in the long run. Many people also miss spots shaving, which can lead to embarrassing situations. Razors can also become quite dull over time, and need to be replaced, making shaving costly in the long run. Although it’s an easy fix for body hair, shaving just doesn’t make a ton of sense if you have to do it every day.

Additionally, many razors are disposable and can cause major environmental headaches if they’re not recycled. Lasers are a more environmentally friendly, easier, effective, and less costly way to deal with unwanted body hair.

Wax

Waxing is highly effective, but most people find it to be exceptionally painful. Although you can wax at home, many people go to salons to have it done professionally. While wax rips the hair out at the root, it doesn’t permanently prevent the follicle from producing more hairs, and most people have to go back to the salon to get re-waxed after a few months. Wax can also cause burns or infections if you don’t go to a reputable place.

Ultimately, most people who try laser hair treatments wind up finding it to be a pain-free, permanent alternative to a lot of other options.

How Soon Can I Wear Makeup After Microneedling?

Microneedling

When you’re having skin texture issues, makeup application can be tricky. Some skin conditions can cause makeup to sit heavily on the face, or cause makeup to enhance flaws rather than mask them. Luckily, the experts at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI know that one of the most effective treatments for uneven texture is microneedling.

How Soon Can I Wear Makeup After Microneedling?

If you’re using this treatment as a way to correct your skin texture so makeup application will be easier and look better, it makes sense if one of your first questions is how soon you can wear makeup after your treatment. Many patients are surprised to learn that they will need to wait at least 48 to 72 hours before any makeup products can be applied to the skin.

This temporary ban on makeup even applies to a tinted moisturizer or tinted sunscreen. While your skin must remain hydrated after your treatment, it’s not advisable to use any products made from pigmented minerals for the sake of not irritating your skin. However, unlike traditional makeup, you can use a tinted moisturizer or sunscreen within 24 hours after your treatment.

Why This Time Frame?

Foundation makeup is an excellent choice to correct pigmentation concerns about the natural appearance of your skin, but the way makeup is formulated makes it a less than ideal option after microneedle treatments. Most makeup is made from an oil base or uses minerals that block pores and potentially interfere with natural skin shedding, both of which can make it more difficult for your skin to recover after this treatment.

It’s important to wait before the application of makeup products so that your skin has a chance to breathe and start recovering from the micro-injuries caused by the treatment. After 24 hours, your skin will be in a better state to handle the chemicals used in tinted products; after 48 to 72 hours, the top layer of your skin will be healed enough that regular makeup application won’t pose any potential problems for recovery.

What Can You Put on Your Face After Microneedling?

If you can’t wear makeup after a microneedling treatment, then what can you put on your skin? For the first one to three days after your treatment, the majority of your skincare routine needs to be focused on promoting skin health, maintaining skin moisture, and protecting your skin during this crucial and highly vulnerable period. The good news is that you have several options for products you can safely use on your skin, which include:

Sunscreen

You must use sunscreen at all times, but especially after microneedle treatments for about two weeks. While you can’t use sunscreen for the first 24 hours after your treatment for the same reason you shouldn’t use other mineral-based products, you should be using sunscreen the day after your treatment.

Ideally, the sunscreen you use should be graded SPF 30 or greater. For those who have fair or sensitive skin, stronger sunscreen may be advisable; you may also want stronger sunscreen during the spring and summer months when the risk of sun exposure is greatest. For patients with acne-prone skin or sensitive skin, you should always opt for non-comedogenic sunscreen.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an incredibly useful natural skincare ingredient that has been used for thousands of years. While aloe vera is most commonly known to help your skin heal after burns, the healing properties of aloe vera are also useful for treating abrasions, dryness, and uneven skin tone. In fact, aloe vera is one of the best products to use to protect the natural function of your skin barrier. Using aloe after your treatment can help your skin heal faster and reduce any redness or irritation following your appointment.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a powerful emollient that can help maintain the moisture balance in the skin, which is your top priority after your treatment. Natural or organic coconut oil applied to the skin two to three times a day can help your skin stay hydrated and make it easier for your skin to recover. Using coconut oil may even be a preferable option if you have sensitive skin that is highly reactive to skincare ingredients normally found in over-the-counter moisturizers.

Moisturizers

Speaking of moisturizers, applying moisturizer throughout the day after your treatment will keep your skin supple and soft after your treatment. General daily moisturizers tend to combine the kind of ingredients that support skin health. However, be careful to check all of the ingredients in your favorite moisturizer; if you have one that uses Vitamin C or retinoids, you will need to switch to a moisturizer without these ingredients during your recovery period.

Hyaluronic Acid

While you will be instructed to stay away from most acid-based skincare ingredients during your aftercare, there is one acid that you may want to stock up on. Hyaluronic acid is a natural acid found in the skin that is responsible for retaining skin moisture. Since hyaluronic acid can carry many times its own weight in water, it’s an important ingredient to use either as a serum or in your moisturizer.

Even more importantly, hyaluronic acid is also friendly to collagen production – in fact, studies indicate that collagen production is more sustainable in the presence of hyaluronic acid. As microneedle treatments are also called collagen induction therapy, it can be helpful to support your collagen production with hyaluronic acid.

Hydrocortisone Cream

Some patients also like to use hydrocortisone cream, which can help soothe irritation and encourage natural healing. Hydrocortisone cream is best at 1%, which is strong enough to support your skin’s regeneration, minimize irritation, and reduce the risk of itching, peeling, or redness after your treatment. You can find hydrocortisone cream at your local pharmacy.

Mild Cleansers

It’s also important to note that your normal cleanser might be too harsh for your skin for the first one to three days of your appointment. Patients should ideally use mild cleansers that don’t contain harsh chemicals, such as sulfates, or certain ingredients like acids. The best mild cleansers to use are oil-based, as they will not strip your skin any further or cause additional dryness. It’s also important to not use exfoliating cleansers or scrubs during this time.

Other Microneedling Aftercare FAQs

1. What Should You Not Put on Your Face After Microneedling?

Other than makeup, is there anything else you should avoid putting on your skin after treatment? It turns out there are quite a few products and ingredients you should steer clear of until your skin is recovered, while is usually within 7 to 10 days of your treatment. The list of skincare products to avoid after this treatment consists mostly of skin actives.

Why You Need to Avoid Skin Actives

Skin actives are ingredients that are used to specifically target certain concerns on the skin. For example, Retinol is used for age-related concerns, while glycolic acid may be used to manage acne, and Vitamin C is used to manage sun damage.

However, most skin actives are based on acids, and the primary purpose of acids is to further strip and exfoliate your skin for more rapid skin cell turnover. Since microneedle treatments are already causing skin cell turnover, adding acid products will only prolong your recovery time – and potentially damage your skin.

2. How Long Will Your Skin Need To Recover?

Most people will require about 7 to 10 days for the skin to be mostly recovered, with those who have mature skin requiring about fourteen days for a full recovery. Your skin requires this much time to shed dead skin cells, correct skin redness and tightness after treatment, and be less vulnerable to harsher chemicals and ingredients.

3. Why Is Hydration Important During Recovery?

Hydration is the core of your microneedle recovery because hydrated skin recovers more quickly, retains more moisture, and has a better overall supple texture. But hydrating your skin is more than just applying moisturizers throughout the day. It’s also important to drink plenty of water, at least 48 oz a day.

4. What Does Skin Cell Turnover Do for Your Skin?

Your natural skin cell turnover process takes about 28 to 40 days to complete. This process is how dead skin cells are replaced by new skin cells that haven’t been damaged by sun exposure, pollution, or chemicals. Your skin cell turnover cycle helps renew skin tone and texture, so any treatment that speeds this process up will help your skin look more perfect more quickly.

5. Why Does It Look Like Your Results Disappear?

Many patients are dismayed to see the results of their treatment seemingly disappear overnight. However, you should always keep in mind that the smooth appearance of your skin during the first few days of your treatment is due to internal swelling from the treatment process, not necessarily the results of the treatment itself. Rest assured, the results of your treatment will be evident after several weeks.

6. How Long Does It Take for Collagen Production?

Producing collagen naturally is a task that will take some time, particularly if you are older or have mature skin with already low levels of collagen. It will take several weeks to begin producing enough collagen within the sub-dermal layers of your skin to begin seeing your desired results.

7. How Many Treatments Will You Need?

Depending on the purpose of your treatment, you will likely need several treatments completed very quickly to produce your desired results. For example, for those who are treating acne scarring, skin laxity, and wrinkles, you will need six to eight treatments. Treatments for blemishes, dark spots, and uneven skin tone may only require four to six appointments.

8. How Frequently Should You Have Treatment?

During your first round of treatment, you will need to have a microneedle appointment once a month until you achieve your desired results. After that, you can maintain the results of your treatment with appointments every four to eight weeks, depending on your skin needs and goals.

9. Are You a Good Candidate for Microneedling Treatments?

People with all skin tones and types are good candidates for this treatment. Whether you want to stave off signs of aging, or to correct uneven skin texture, this non-surgical and non-invasive treatment is likely a good choice for you.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Breast Reduction?

Choosing to have breast reduction surgery can be a liberating moment. You’re doing something that will make you feel better emotionally and physically and improve your quality of life. With this decision comes the need to seek information. At Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, we strive to answer your questions and make this momentous occasion as stress-free as possible.

Recovery Time After Breast Reduction Surgery

Every patient responds to surgery differently, so it’s difficult to say exactly how long it will take you to recover from this procedure. Realistically, you will need between two and six weeks to make a full recovery, although you’ll start to regain strength and energy within about seven days. You will likely need at least a week away from work, depending on the nature of your job, and during this time, you’ll have to limit your activities.

This means you will need help with meal preparation, housework, child care, shopping, and even caring for yourself. In addition, we recommend you not drive until you can comfortably wear a seatbelt. This can take between one and three weeks, so plan accordingly for your kids and your own appointments and needs.

A Suggested Timeline

Your surgery will only take a few hours, and then you’ll be placed in a recovery room where we can monitor your post-operative progress. We perform breast reduction as an outpatient procedure, and once you’re feeling alert enough, we will send you home.

You won’t be able to drive, so you’ll need to arrange for someone to bring you to and take you from surgery. That person should also plan on spending time with you at home to ensure you’re comfortable.

Day One

We consider this to be the same day as surgery, and once home, your goal is to simply rest. This will help your body start the healing process. You’ll be placed into a post-operative bra and have bandages over your incisions. But don’t worry – we’ll provide you with all the instructions necessary to properly care for your incisions.

This also marks the time when you’ll need to start wearing your bra 24 hours a day, except when showering. This helps keep you comfortable and also supports breast tissues as they recover from surgery.

Week One

You need this time away from work to continue resting. You should also use this first week to drink plenty of water – it helps with healing – eat well, and avoid strenuous activity. Stick to your pain medication schedule and familiarize yourself with the instructions we provided after surgery. If you have any questions during this time, we urge you to call our office right away.

We should also stress that your post-op instructions will likely differ from those of another patient. That’s why it is important to follow our recommendations for incision care, activity restrictions, and diet. They’re based on your needs specifically.

Gentle Walking

We’ve discussed the need for avoiding strenuous activities, but now is a good time to discuss what you can do just outside of surgery. Yes, rest is important, but you should also begin to incorporate some gentle walking each day. Start slowly, at maybe 10 minutes a day, and work your way up to 30 minutes.

This promotes blood flow, which your tissues need to heal, and prevents blood clots. Establishing this habit can also continue far beyond your healing period. Finally, walking will help you gradually return to normal activities.

No Heavy Lifting

After surgery, it’s important you refrain from straining your body. We therefore recommend you not lift anything heavy, including:

  • Weighted purses or briefcases
  • Grocery bags
  • Milk and juice jugs
  • Dog food bags
  • Cat litter bags
  • Vacuum cleaner

These recommendations will hold for at least two weeks. Additionally, don’t pick up or lift children, and keep your arms at a comfortable position without raising them over your head. Also avoid stretching and exercising until we give you the go-ahead.

Month One

Throughout this month, your body will change in a variety of ways. Your incisions will heal, although it may be several months before we recommend a return to underwire bras; the wire can chafe and damage skin that is still recovering. You’ll also note more energy and reduced pain in the neck and shoulders because, simply, your breasts are smaller.

This will mean more freedom of movement, but we recommend you slowly ease back into full activities. There’s no need to rush. Toward the end of the month, you will likely be cleared for low-impact exercises. You’ll be back to work, driving again, and caring for yourself. In other words, you’ll be back to your old self – only better.

Ways to Help Your Recovery

Much of your recovery will depend on you. If you follow the instructions we provide, you’ll likely enjoy a shorter healing period. For instance, planning for your return home after surgery can make life a little easier. Pour water, milk, and juice into small containers and have them ready in the refrigerator; this will allow you to drink without worry of lifting heavy gallon jugs.

Meal Plans

By planning what you’re going to eat for at least those first few days after surgery, you can give yourself more crucial time to heal. Pre-made meals that you store in the refrigerator or freezer can be easily heated in the microwave. In your planning, opt for high-protein foods like eggs, poultry, and fish. Protein can help you heal more quickly, and a simple meal of dark, leafy greens and grilled chicken is nutritious and comforting.

Plan for snacks as well. Cubed cheese, crackers, pretzels, and fruit are perfect for accompanying your medications and can be enjoyed almost effortlessly. Yogurt and nuts make equally smart choices. Use plasticware and paper plates so you don’t have to worry about washing dishes or loading and unloading the dishwasher as you heal.

Clothing

Loose, cotton pants or shorts and button-down shirts will be the most comfortable choices after surgery. Have a few outfits laid out to simplify dressing, and keep your nightwear within easy reach for nighttime. You should also:

  • Designate a space for wound supplies and medications
  • Create a basket with reading materials and TV remote controls
  • Stock flexible neck straws, extra gauze, and antibacterial soap in the house

The Procedure Explained

The purpose of this procedure is to reduce the weight and size of heavy breasts. To do this, we ensure results are more proportionate to the rest of your body. You then see a smaller bust that is more lifted, youthful, and contoured.

During surgery, we remove extra fat and stretched skin. This eliminates sagging so your silhouette as a whole is improved. We also ensure breasts are more symmetrical, correct stretched areolas, and reduce nipple size. Overall, your breasts will be lighter, well-balanced, and more attractive whether in or out of your clothes.

Reasons Women Opt for Surgery

We understand that each woman’s reason for surgery is slightly different. Some want to correct back pain; large breasts impact posture and spine curvature. They pull you forward without your even knowing it, which can strain the muscles and cause neck and back pain. In some cases, the pain is severe enough to cause headaches as well.

A lack of adequate support can also contribute to pain and poor posture. Because the breasts lack muscle tissue, they have very little natural support. Oversized breasts can therefore tax back muscles that work to compensate for additional weight in the front of the body.

Lack of Self Esteem

A woman inherently ties a part of her self-worth to her appearance. If she feels poorly about her body, as so often happens in women with large breasts, she will likely have low self-esteem.

As if to confirm this, we often see women hunching or wearing bulky, oversized clothing to try to hide their breasts. Surgery can instantly restore confidence in a woman by changing how she looks; it also provides a sense of empowerment because a woman who chooses this procedure is also choosing to take care of herself.

Poor Clothing Choices

It might not seem important, but it actually is. The reality is that women with oversized breasts can struggle to find clothing that is appropriate, comfortable, and fits well. Clothing factors into a person’s overall body image, and having limited choices can make a woman feel worse. Some women may even feel stigmatized by certain clothing brands that fail to meet their needs.

LImited Physical Abilities

Large breasts can make exercise difficult, if not altogether impossible. Even with a sports bra, heavy breasts can impede a woman’s ability to lift weights, run, and participate in workout classes. Going to a gym is often out of the question, as women who feel self-conscious don’t want to exercise in front of others. So the answer is often not to engage at all.

Breast reduction allows a woman to resume a healthy, active lifestyle. Patients can once again move with confidence, which in turn contributes to overall health.

Uncomfortable Sleep

Whether you sleep on your side, stomach, or back, you know you have a favorite position. Women with large breasts, however, lack these options. Simply put, heavy breasts can cause pain in any posture, forcing some women to sleep in bras all night that chafe skin and offer little relief. Surgery restores restful sleep and lets you lie in almost any way you feel comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s natural to have questions before going into surgery. Many women, for instance, want to know the difference between a breast lift and reduction. While these procedures are similar, they’re also very different.

In both procedures, the nipple is moved upwards to give breasts a lifted appearance. But in a reduction, we remove breast tissue and fat to visibly reduce your cup size. In a breast lift, we reshape breasts to make them look rounder and perkier, and we only remove excess skin (not fat). Any change in cup size results from a change in breast shape rather than size.

What Will My Incisions Look Like?

Scars form in response to skin injury, and those after surgery will depend on how much tissue we remove. We have two different scar patterns to choose from: the vertical, which extends down from the nipple, or the horizontal, which extends from the nipple to under the breast horizontally. We will discuss the incision you need during your consultation.

Can I Breastfeed After Surgery?

The answer to this question depends on the breast tissue still remaining, rather than that which we remove. Approximately 60 percent of women are able to still breastfeed after this procedure. In general, we recommend that women have breast reduction surgery after they’re finished with family planning goals.

Conclusion

Within just a month of surgery, you can be well on your way to recovering and enjoying a much greater quality of life. Call Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage and Battle Creek, MI, today to schedule your consultation.

Does a Breast Reduction Include a Lift?

Breast Reduction

Large breasts aren’t always a blessing, not just for aesthetic reasons, but for the pain and discomfort they bring. Breast reduction surgery alleviates these concerns and gives women a much-needed confidence boost. But we understand this procedure comes with questions, and at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage and Battle Creek, MI, we want to provide all the answers you need.

Is a Lift Part of a Breast Reduction?

Most providers, including those in our office, perform a breast lift with the reduction to ensure your bust looks firmer and more youthful. The effects of gravity cause large breasts to sag more visibly and quickly than smaller breasts. Without a lift, this effect would be more pronounced after eliminating excess breast tissue and fat.

This issue is similar to that of people who experience extreme weight loss and then have sagging skin that doesn’t snap back into place. In truth, a breast lift is usually a necessary component of the reduction to restore a more comfortable bust size and shape.

Good News

The good news is that lift and reduction surgeries go hand-in-hand, so they can be performed at the same time. This means that in one procedure, we will:

  • Remove unnecessary breast fat and skin
  • Reshape the breasts for better contouring
  • Reposition the nipple and areola for a perkier appearance
  • Reduce the areola, if desired

Although a lift is a secondary aspect of the reduction surgery, it’s a way for us to tighten skin around your newly-reduced tissue. Your breasts will then look more natural both in and out of your clothes.

The Differences Between a Lift and Reduction

Sometimes patients don’t know which of these procedures is right for them or confuse the purposes. Breast reduction is performed on more than 100,000 patients annually and focuses on making the breasts smaller. The tissues removed during this procedure include milk glands and fat for a true reduction in size.

A breast lift, on the other hand, does not remove fat or tissue. It only trims away excess skin to reshape and raise breasts. In turn, you see an improved silhouette without a reduction in cup size. Pairing the procedures – that is, having a reduction and lift together – gives you a tighter, smoother contour and smaller breasts.

Which Is Right for You?

Answering this question requires knowing what you want to achieve from surgery. If your chief concerns are sagging or drooping, a breast lift can help. If you want smaller breasts that also sit higher, a reduction is the right choice.

To further assist your decision, here are some common reasons women opt for only a breast lift:

  • They feel embarrassed because of sagging
  • Their breasts appear deflated because they have lost volume
  • Their nipples face downward
  • They have stretched skin caused by breastfeeding, weight gain, or aging
  • Their breasts have lost symmetry

Reasons for a Reduction

Just as women have common reasons for choosing a breast lift, they also have similar reasons for choosing a reduction. Among the most common are:

  • Reduced range of motion and physical activity
  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Poor posture both when sitting and standing
  • Difficulty sleeping and breathing
  • Chronic skin chaffing beneath the breasts
  • Difficulty finding supportive and well-fitting clothing

Important Reduction Facts

At its most basic level, the goal of a reduction is to restore a woman’s personal comfort. The pain caused by oversized breasts can, in many instances, be unmanageable. And there’s no getting around the fact that a woman’s range of motion is severely inhibited by large breasts. We therefore strive to provide relief, and thanks to targeted techniques, patients experience minimal discomfort after surgery.

You Don’t Need to Meet a Size Threshold

This procedure does not require patients to meet a size threshold. It is, in fact, right for any woman who feels discomfort with her breasts. This means that if you have low-hanging or disproportionate breasts, regardless of size, you can benefit from this procedure. Additionally, if you have what might be considered a smaller cup size but still feel pain during exercise, your concerns are valid.

Breasts Change with Time

Breast reduction is not limited just to women who have experienced large breasts since a young age. Just the opposite; we understand that bodies change with time.

The breasts can similarly change in size and shape because of breastfeeding, weight gain, and gravity – and these changes can occur at any point. Therefore, a woman who had a smaller bust up until age 40 is as viable a candidate as a woman who has had larger breasts since her 20s.

The Procedure Benefits All Ages

As a society, we tend to think of only middle-aged women needing breast reduction. But this is far from the truth, as even young people can and do have this procedure. In addition, older and mature women can also feel better after a reduction. The most important point is that any patient who can tolerate surgery and is of sound health may benefit.

Requires Less Time Than You Think

This procedure is neither time-consuming nor intense. It’s performed on an outpatient basis and takes roughly three hours. After you spend some time in recovery and feel alert, you are released to go home, where you can finish healing comfortably in your own environment.

Your activity will be restricted for about six weeks, although most patients return to work in just a week or two. You are encouraged to walk during this time and slowly ease back into your normal routine. Combined with healthful food, rest, and plenty of fluids, these recommendations can restore your normal energy levels well in advance of the six-week window.

Focuses on Shape Rather Than Size

Women link breast size to bra cup size, but reduction surgery works a little differently. This means that while it’s helpful to know the size you would like to achieve, it’s not necessarily possible. First and foremost, every apparel company manufactures bras a little differently, so cup size is not universal. Your ideal breast size also depends on your overall body shape, which we will consider when taking pre-surgery measurements.

We therefore encourage patients to find photos of women with bodies similar to their own and look at their breasts. Show to our staff the photos that most closely reflect how you want your breasts to look. This focus on shape, rather than size, is a better way to communicate your appearance goals.

May Reduce Your Cancer Risk

Few people realize this, but by reducing breast tissue, you also have a reduced risk of developing breast cancer. This is not hypothetical but is instead substantiated by two peer-reviewed studies. Additionally, any tissues removed during the procedure are analyzed to ensure they are non-cancerous. Surgery can therefore be highly advantageous for women concerned about breast cancer.

You Will Need a Bra

Having smaller breasts may feel like you can finally go bra-free, but the hands of time still influence your skin and tissue. You will therefore continue needing a bra after surgery to limit the effects of gravity. This will help ensure long-lasting results and keep your breasts as smooth and lifted as possible.

For about the first month, we recommend you wear a bra 24 hours a day, except when showering or bathing. The reason? It helps support your healing tissues and actually enhances your personal comfort.

Very High Patient Satisfaction Rates

This surgery is, overall, a positive experience for most women. It brings a sense of relief and freedom that no other therapy can. And results are immediate; your incisions will be bandaged, and you’ll need to wear a bra throughout the day, but your breasts will instantly be smaller and lighter.

Keep in mind they will continue to heal and change in shape over an extended period of time, but the physical discomfort associated with heavy breasts will be gone. For all of these reasons, reduction yields one of the highest satisfaction rates of all cosmetic treatments.

Benefits of a Reduction

Once your breasts are more proportionate to the rest of your body, you will have no more physical limitations. You will once again be able to run, jump, and even swim without worrying about breast pain and movement.

Now is a good time to point out that breasts move independently of the rest of your body. This can cause excessive swaying and bouncing even when you’re doing something as simple as a household chore. Surgery can substantially reduce this movement so that you feel once more in control of your own body.

Bid Goodbye To Discomfort

Without the extra weight posed by an oversized bust, you’ll no longer feel pulled forward when you stand or sit. This eases the strain placed on your neck and shoulders and eases muscle aches. It also alleviates common back pain caused by impacts on posture and spinal curvature. In short, you’ll feel much better.

The same is true of skin irritation that commonly develops beneath breast creases. That irritation can be severe enough to limit not only what a woman can do, but also what she can wear. This, too, is relieved with smaller breasts, as they will no longer rub and chafe against the skin.

Greater Confidence

Large breasts can pose a real barrier between women and confidence. You may feel that others only see your breasts, and to compensate, you may try to hide your body with bulky clothing or a hunched posture. These are all signs of low self-esteem.

After surgery, you’ll feel lightened of physical and mental burdens. This can immediately boost your confidence as you enjoy a smaller and more proportionate bust that better suits your body.

Redefine Yourself

A woman with large breasts may feel compelled to define herself as just that. When you don’t feel good about your appearance, it’s difficult to have a positive body image. And constantly feeling the pain and tugging of oversized breasts does nothing to compensate for how you feel about yourself.

Now, imaging looking in the mirror and seeing your body for what it truly is. No longer masked by oversized breasts, you can see your true shape, your real size, and the new you. This is a great time to re-define yourself and learn more about who you really are.

Put Yourself First

Sometimes, it’s hard for women to put their needs above those of others, but this is an instance when you need to do just that. Whether you long to shop in a “normal” store for regular clothes, need to regain your confidence, or simply feel unhappy with your breast size, a reduction can help. You don’t have to worry about rumored boundaries of age or body shape history. Instead, we encourage all women who want to improve their range of motion and enjoy improved overall health to consider this surgery. We have Med Spa Services that include laser hair removal for the face and neck separately.

Our Med Spa Services include laser hair removal treatments for lip and chin hair, separately. Laser hair removal treatments for small areas (such as the upper lip or chin) can be done in less than a minute.

Underarms

Do you like the feel of smooth, hairless arms? Laser hair removal is an effective treatment that works to reduce underarm hair growth. Our specialists highly recommend this for those who would like to experience less sweating and reduce body odor caused by it. Compared to other options such as shaving and plucking, laser hair removal for your underarms is more effective and convenient. It destroys the hair follicles so you can drastically reduce hair growth.

Arms

Would you like to permanently reduce hair growth on your arms? Shaving arm hair removes hair only at the skin surface and not the root. This method causes arm hairs to appear to grow back faster and thicker. Laser hair removal treatments destroy hair follicles from underneath your skin and shed arm hair completely.

Legs

Would you like to achieve the appearance of smooth, hair-free legs? If you like wearing more dresses, skirts, and shorts, then you know that shaving can cause a lot of time and effort. Our specialists provide flexible laser hair removal treatments for your legs (upper, lower, full) so you can keep hair from coming back in the future.

Bikini

Every woman has a different bikini line. It involves any area that would be exposed if you were wearing bikini bottoms or swimwear. Laser hair removal on the bikini lines is completely safe. It involves your upper thighs, the area below the belly button, and the region around the groin.

Brazilian

Brazilian laser hair removal treatments include more than the bikini line. It also addresses hair growth on the labia and perineal areas. If you would like to permanently decrease hair growth on your pubic areas, then a Brazilian treatment will be more suitable for you.

Back

Genetics can cause men to have a hairy back. The male hormone, testosterone, also encourages the growth of body hair. If you’d like to achieve a smooth back, you know how shaving can be such a difficult, painstaking task. Laser hair removal is the easiest solution for permanently reducing back hair and helping you feel more comfortable in your skin.

Chest

Some amount of chest hair can be attractive. But would you rather have smooth skin on your chest area? When it comes to laser chest hair removal, we use laser light pulses that can selectively destroy chest hair follicles. This method prevents the regrowth of blunt, cut hair that you usually get after shaving.

Abdomen

it’s completely normal to have hair on your stomach, but it can also cause annoyance or even discomfort. Do you feel self-conscious about the way your belly or abdominal hair looks? A laser hair removal treatment is an effective cosmetic solution for you. Unlike shaving, laser hair removal does not cause hair to regrow thicker, so you can get smooth, hairless skin.

TruSculpt iD

One of the latest body sculpting treatments we offer is TruSculpt iD. By using heat energy, it permanently destroys fat cells while tightening your skin. It delivers superior results with an average of 24% fat reduction. This treatment can also eliminate the appearance of stretch marks and wrinkles. What Is the Difference Between a Breast Augmentation and Breast Implants?

If you’re just beginning to explore your available options for breast augmentation, you may have already noticed that there is a vast amount of terminology involved with these procedures. At Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI, we believe it is important to make our patients feel comfortable by ensuring that the whole process surrounding any breast enhancement procedure is clearly understood.

What Is a Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure in which breast implants are surgically implanted under the patient’s existing breast tissue. The procedure is also referred to as a breast enlargement, or breast enhancement, and is performed with the primary aim of creating fuller or larger breasts. Breast augmentation procedures are carried out for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes.

There are several techniques that can be used in order to help you achieve the aesthetic you’re looking for. The majority involve the use of implants, or, in some cases, an autologous fat transfer from another part of your body can be used to create the desired results. Your surgeon will work with you to help you decide exactly which procedure will be best for you.

Augmentation procedures are typically sought by anybody looking to increase their natural breast size or to recover fullness lost after breastfeeding or after losing significant amounts of weight. Women who have undergone partial, full, or double mastectomies are also ideal candidates for enhancement surgery.

What Is a Breast Implant?

A breast implant is a prosthesis that is used in augmentation and reconstruction procedures to alter the size or change the shape of the natural breast. There are a few different materials used to fill breast implants, with the three most common being silicone, saline, and cohesive gel.

Silicone

Silicone is widely regarded for its natural feel. It is tried and tested and offers great results for most women, particularly those starting with less breast tissue.

Saline

Saline implants are inserted empty and then filled, offering a solution to women looking to avoid larger incisions. Additionally, saline implants are the only FDA approved cosmetic breast prosthesis approved for use in patients under 22 years of age.

Cohesive Gel

Sometimes called ‘Gummy Bear’, cohesive gel implants make use of a thick, firm gel that resembles the feeling of gummy bears, hence the nickname. This forms a stable gel and offers excellent shape retention over a long period of time.

Which Type of Breast Implant Should I Choose?

Choosing the right breast implant for your augmentation procedure isn’t as straightforward as choosing a filling. In fact, you’ll also have to choose texture, profile, and shape, too. Some of these options are completely down to personal preference, although some choices will be limited by the physical attributes of each individual patient.

If you have a particular aesthetic in mind, it will be helpful if you can show your surgeon pictures from magazines that reflect how you’d like to look. If nothing springs to mind from magazines, your doctor should take the time to go through before and after pictures of his previous patients with you.

From there you should be able to set your goals, and that will help in delivering the best possible outcome. Based upon your discussions with the surgeon about how you’d like to look, the following options should then be considered:

Implant Texture

While you won’t actually be able to see or feel the texture of your implants post-surgery, the choice you make will have an impact on how your breasts feel. You will have the option of a smooth shell, or a textured one.

Smooth Shell Implants

Smooth shells are only used on round breast implants. They are thinner than textured implants and this usually results in softer, more natural feeling breasts.

Textured Shell Implants

Textured implant shells are much thicker than their smooth counterparts. This tends to result in a firmer feeling breast post-surgery. Because of their sturdy construction, textured shells can be used on both round and anatomical type implants.

Implant Shape

An important factor in how your breast augmentation will look after surgery is the shape of the implant. Patients usually have the choice between round or anatomical (sometimes known as teardrop) prosthesis. Both offer different aesthetics, so the option you choose is mostly down to how you’d like your breasts to look post-surgery.

Round Breast Implants

Round implants are effectively squashed spheroids. They are the most popular implant in breast augmentation procedures and can give wonderful results. They are a great choice for anybody looking for maximum fullness in the upper part of their breasts. Women in southwest Michigan enjoy improved lift and increased cleavage from round implants.

Because of the inherent stability of round breast implants, they can have either textured or smooth shells. This means you’ll be able to choose from a softer, more supple implant in the smooth shell, or a firmer, more shapely implant in the textured shell.

Anatomical Breast Implants

Anatomical breast implants have the rough shape of a teardrop – narrower at the top and contouring down into a full bottom half. They offer excellent projection, which is the distance that the breast extends from the chest wall, and are a great choice for those who desire a more natural look.

Because anatomical implants are shaped like natural breasts, they make a great choice for anybody who does not have a great deal of existing breast tissue prior to their augmentation.

Implant Size

An increase in breast size is what most women seek when they undergo an augmentation procedure. When choosing the right implants for your desired look, we recommend thinking about the following factors.

Keep Things Proportional

When you’re trying to choose the perfect size for your implants, first consider the areas of your body that will not be undergoing a transformation in order to better visualize the final look. Your body frame type, as well as height to weight ratio, and shoulder, waist, and hip measurements all come in to play.

Consider Your Wardrobe

Believe it or not, your fashion sense should also factor into your decision when it comes to the size of the implants you choose. If you tend to wear a lot of low cut clothing then a larger implant will definitely make you feel more confident in those outfits. On the other hand, if you tend to shy away from drawing attention to your breasts, a more conservative size increase might be advisable.

Think About Exercise

If you are an active individual, it is usually advisable to go with a smaller implant in order to help you maintain your lifestyle with minimal modification.

Bra Size Is Not the Answer

Remember, like all clothing, bra sizes differ slightly between manufacturers, so a 34 C in one brand might fit like a 32 D in another. It is OK to have a rough cup size in mind but try not to focus too much on universal measurements.

Implant Size Is Universal

As we mentioned, bra sizes are not an appropriate way to measure a breast implant, however, the implants themselves can be universally measured. Implants are sized in cubic centimeters with the typical range being anywhere from 120cc to 850cc.

Talk With Your Surgeon

While ultimately, the final decision about your breast implant size rests with you, don’t be too quick to discount your surgeon’s advice, even if it isn’t quite what you want to hear. Carefully weigh any advice they give against your initial thoughts before reaching any firm decisions.

Other Breast Enhancement Procedure Considerations

As well as choosing the type of implants you want for your procedure, you’ll also have to give some thought to the procedure itself. Where do you want the incision to be? How would you prefer the implants to be placed?

Your choices will have an impact on the final appearance of your breasts, as well as your ability to breastfeed. Take the time to talk this through with your surgeon to ensure you not only get the look you desire but also to minimize interruption to your lifestyle.

Incision Site

The three most common incision sites during breast augmentation are the areola, the armpit, and the crease where the bottom of the breast meets the torso.

The choice of incision site is impacted by other elements of the implant choice, including the shape, texture, and size. The patient’s body frame will also influence the position of the incision site.

Placement of the Implants

As briefly mentioned above, the placement of the implants will have an impact on your lifestyle depending on which you choose. Women can opt to have their breast implants placed behind the pectoral muscle, or on top of the pectoral muscle but behind the breast gland. Both options have their own set of advantages and will appeal to different patients.

Submuscular implants are usually recommended for lean women with little body fat and breast tissue. Placing the implant behind the pectoral muscle will blend its appearance for a more natural look that camouflages the prosthesis.

Subglandular implants are more common than submuscular. This procedure offers a faster recovery time and tends to give a more lifted look.

Your Surgeon

Your choice of surgeon is also of the utmost importance, in fact, it is just as important a decision as the choice of the implants themselves. Choosing a surgeon that will work with you to achieve your goals and desired aesthetic is critical.

Your surgeon should be experienced enough to guide you through the process with ease, while still taking the time to listen to you. Dr. Elluru and the team at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery are dedicated to providing the very best patient care in the industry.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

The reasons for any one person to think about, and then follow through with a breast enhancement procedure are deeply personal. This surgery can truly change lives when done for the right reasons. If you’re seriously considering breast enlargement, you might be an ideal candidate if:

  • You are in good health
  • You are not currently breastfeeding
  • You are unhappy with the current appearance of your breasts
  • Your breasts are uneven or asymmetrical
  • Your breasts are completely developed
  • You are over the age of 18

This list is not exhaustive, and only after a detailed consultation with a board-approved surgeon can you be considered eligible for an augmentation procedure.

Achieve the Figure You Have Always Dreamed Of

The decision to proceed with a breast augmentation procedure is not one to be taken lightly. We advise all of our patients to research all they can. Being clear on your goals will go a long way to helping your cosmetic surgeon navigate you through the many decisions you’ll need to make on the road to your dream physique.

If you are ready to move on to the next step and learn more about your options for breast augmentation, we invite you to call us to set up your initial consultation with Dr. Elluru at Southwest Michigan Plastic and Hand Surgery in Portage, MI.
